ALEX Technology and Security Overview

What’s this ALEX thingy?

ALEX is a web application that helps people pick their employee benefits. People like you, for instance. Your company’s HR team will help us configure ALEX to become an expert in every aspect of your employee benefits — stuff like your medical plan options, flexible spending accounts, and disability insurance—so it can help you and your fellow employees when you have to pick your benefits.

There are two components to the core ALEX experience:

Interactive Conversation
An HTML-based rich media experience that simulates a live conversation with a virtual host, ALEX.

Details Pages
Web pages that contain summaries of each benefit (including, at times, key decisions made by the user).

How will our people get to ALEX?

ALEX is a fully hosted solution. Employees will get to it via a simple URL, which can be sent in an email or placed on a page in your company’s portal. ALEX doesn’t require log-in credentials, and your company doesn’t have to provide any information specific to end-users at all.

What about end-user data security?

We’re serious about security. Although ALEX does ask users questions about their personal situations, their answers are encrypted using AES-256 and cannot be linked to them. Even if a user gives ALEX their email address so they can return to pick up where they left off, we don’t store that email address or link their answers with it in any way.

Electronic protected health information (ePHI)

ALEX does not create, request, maintain, transmit, collect, or store any protected health information. Every user is completely anonymous, and we even take precautions not to collect or store IP addresses that can be correlated to any user information.

Stable. No, check that. Our service is rock-solid. Our team works hard to deliver high uptime, dynamite throughput, and low latency.

Hosting

We maintain three active, geographically diverse, US data centers to provide triple redundancy of service delivery and analytics data acquisition.

Scalability

Our content delivery network pushes content to more than 20 US distribution points, and we have the ability to add additional on a per-region basis during periods of increased traffic or load.
