Got a medical plan that is only available in Alabama? Another set of premiums for part timers? Union and Non-union disability plans that differ? Eligibility questions are here to help!
These questions will be asked at the beginning of the conversation along with the standard questions about marital status and children and can be used to determine which benefits or premiums each employee should see.
-
If your customer has eligibility criteria for certain plans, find the “Eligibility Questions” tab.
The Eligibility Questions tab contains all the standard questions that ALEX can ask employees to determine their eligibility. Common eligibility criteria include:
- Employment status (full-time, part-time, etc.)
- Location
- Annual salary or eligible pay
- Years of service

-
If your customer has eligibility criteria that isn’t covered by one of the standard questions, click “+ create new question” at the bottom of the eligibility page. Enter the new question and add answer selections employees can choose from.

-
Once there are enough questions to cover all your customer’s eligibility criteria, you’re ready to connect those questions to the plans an employee should see.

-
How to Attach Eligibility Criteria.
1. Click on a plan that should only be visible to eligible employees.
2. Toggle the first line under the “General Tab” to read “This plan is not available to all employees.” This let’s ALEX know to check the employee’s eligibility before showing them the plan.
-
3. Click “+ add eligibility question” and select a question from the drop-down list. Any custom questions you’ve written will show up at the bottom of the drop-down list. If you don’t see the question you need, you’ll need to add it yourself (see “How to Add Eligibility Criteria” above).

-
4. Once you’ve added the question, select the answer that will allow an employee to see this plan.

-
How to Attach Eligibility Criteria to Premiums
1. Click on a plan with different premiums for different groups of employees. Go to the “Premiums” tab and click “+ add a new premium group.”

-
2. Use the pencil and check icons to edit the premium group names to reflect that premium’s criteria. (Full-time Employees, Part-Time Employees, etc.). This is just an internal label for your convenience.

-
3. Click on “+ add an eligibility question” at the bottom of the corresponding premium group, and then attach the appropriate eligibility question and answer.

-
4. Set the premium contribution frequency and annual premium amount.
5. Repeat this for each premium group.
