How New Hire Mode Works
Once your open enrollment ends, ALEX automatically shifts into “New Hire” mode. In New Hire mode, ALEX checks whether you’re eligible to choose benefits.
After asking all the regular eligibility questions (marital status, number of children, etc.) ALEX will say: “All right! I’ve got your info, but let me ask… were you hired recently? Or did you have a qualifying event?”

Yes, I was hired recently.
If you answer that you were hired recently, ALEX displays text indicating when you’re eligible for benefits, and how long you have to enroll, saying: “So, here’s when you’re eligible for benefits and how long you have to enroll. Let me know when you’re ready to keep going.”
When you hit “I’m ready,” ALEX takes you through your benefits.
No, but I had a qualifying event.
If you answer that you have had a qualifying event, ALEX says:
“Because of that, you can probably change your enrollment elections, if you want to. For a little while, at least.”
Then ALEX takes you through your benefits.

Nope, neither.
If you answer than you’re not a new hire and you haven’t had a qualifying event, ALEX says:“Since it’s not the annual enrollment period, you might not be able to enroll right now. However, I can certainly talk to you about your benefits.”
If you answer “Sure, tell me about my benefits,” ALEX takes you through your benefits as if it was the open enrollment period.
If you answer “Never mind, I’m outta here,” ALEX says goodbye and the conversation ends.

What are qualifying events?
If you ask qualifying events are, ALEX displays text explaining your company’s qualifying event policy, saying:“Ah, here’s the explanation.”
After a pause, ALEX loops back to the original question “Were you hired recently?”
